Hello, Hillsdale Family.  I pray that you all are doing well and keeping safe and healthy during this time of illness.  I miss you all SO MUCH.  I'm very eager to see you all again soon.  I know all of you are, too.  For many of you, this forced absence from church meetings is the only time in your lives you've ever been away from church for this long - going on 11 weeks now.

The question everyone is asking is – “when is church going to re-open?”  And the best answer we have right now is “as soon as we can do so SAFELY."  Last Monday, the Governor cleared churches to open with certain restrictions and guidelines for best practices.  Like me, I know some of you are anxious to resume in-person worship, to see each other face-to -face.  As your Pastor, however, my concern is not only with your spiritual well-being, but with your physical safety as well.

The Trustees, Deacons, Leadership Team, and I will meet next week to plan our next steps.  The Governor has published a 12-page guidance for what a church needs to do to re-open.  We will review this guidance and prepare a plan for HBBC.  Please pray for your leaders as we complete this work.  When we are ready to meet, we will notify everyone well in advance through e-mail, on our website, and in the mail.

I do want to caution you that, initially, this will not be church as before.  In the beginning, the “new normal” will include social distancing, face masks, sanitizing your hands, and possibly other changes.  Sadly, no hugs or shaking hands.  And worst of all, you may need to sit in a different pew than you are used to.  It is likely we will start with worship only and Sunday School will be in the future.

If you have concerns or specific questions, please do not hesitate to call me.

Pastor Jim

Prayer  Let me encourage you to gather with your family to pray for a great healing across our land.  Pray for a healing of relationships, families, churches, and racial, cultural, and political division.  Pray for a national healing from the coronavirus that is profound and visible.  Pray that God will heal us in such ways that only He could receive the glory, that even political, media, and healthcare leaders would recognize that it was the hand of God that healed our land.

You can do so by joining our Family Prayer & Devotion Gathering online each Wednesday at 6:30 pm. We enjoy sharing with each other, praying and participating in a short devotional time. It's only one hour but it is worth much more to the ministry of this church and the work of His Kingdom.

Worship  Don't forget Sundays at 10:45 am on Zoom. We would love to see all your lovely faces. Weekly sermons are uploaded to our website at www.hillsdalechurch.com, either as a video or an audio recording on Mondays.  Keep reaching out to one another by phone during this time.  Please let me know of any situations that I should know about.

I love you all.
Pastor Jim

Secret Sisters, R.E.A.L. WOMEN

Shh Lips Images, Stock Photos & Vectors | ShutterstockSssshhhhh!  It’s a secret!  Ladies, are you participating in the R.E.A.L. Women’s Ministry Secret Sisters?  If you are, you should have already received information on your Secret Sister.  It is very important right now, during this time of isolation, to let your sister know that they are not alone and that you are praying for them.  You can mail them a card – use the church address as the return address if you don’t want to give away your identity.  If you have a gift for your secret sister, the church office can “forward” it to her.  Just call to make sure someone is in the office before you come by to drop it off.  Call Sheila Ashburn at 916-205-2370, if you have questions about the R.E.A.L. Women’s Ministry.

The R.E.A.L. Women’s Ministry supports the women of Hillsdale Blvd. Baptist Church with fellowship, caring, and acceptance.  R.E.A.L. stands for “Relationships, Encouragement, Accountability, and Laughter”.

God is continually reaching out and touching lives through our social media. We continue to reach people.

As you view our Apart But Together Worship Experience you may see some faces you do not recognize.

These are our guests. Continue to pray for them in their spiritual journey as they connect their hearts to God and Grow to become more like Christ -  being equipped to serve the church as they share the knowledge of Christ to their world, and exalt Him through their daily lives.

In God's Presence There Is JOY

I hope these words find you safe and healthy.

It means so much to me that God is such a loving and caring Father who is concerned with every minute detail of our lives. He is present with us. He will never leave us or forsake us. He has put us on the path of life.

As we stay focused on being present in His presence, we shall find fullness of joy. It is the kind of joy that overwhelms our spirit with laughter and with smiles of hope. And in His presence this joy will carry us through the difficult times when we sense fear, doubt and even worry. He knows our heart and our thoughts and He understands us better than we understand ourselves.

During these times we offer up to God these thoughts and lay them at His feet. He does not condemn us or judge us. He knows our weakness and we know, thank God, that in our weakness we have strength in Him. All we have to do is stay in His presence and trust in His promises.

I pray God's presence and joy are covering you today.

What is larger—a child’s ball or the sun? That’s a ridiculous question, right? But if you were to hold that ball up to your face, it would completely block out the sun from your sight. So while the sun is vastly bigger than the largest child’s ball, the ball would seem much bigger to you, as your perspective is skewed.

This is the crucial issue of perspective. In life, many things can loom large...Read More

What Makes a Great Team (Part 1) by Rick Warren
Every church needs a strong volunteer team. You can’t afford to hire enough staff to do all God wants you to do in your
community. More importantly, one of the purposes of your church “is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church” (Ephesians 4:12 NLT). Part of equipping your volunteers to serve the church is developing them into an effective team...
