Each week, as worship service ends, I try to recognize all the people who make it possible for us to join together online.  Sadly, I sometimes forget someone. Last week I failed to mention all the work my wife, Debbie, has been doing each week in hosting our website and church Facebook page. Through her efforts, several new people have been joining us online each week. She also has been posting the weekly sermon videos to the website for us. Thanks then to all of the wonderful servants who give their time and talents: Christian Hartis, Jose Mayrena, Naomi Mayrena, Louise Mayrena, Nancy Gemignani, Debbie Fredrickson, Tim Hayes, and Roman Bulanova.  “THANK YOU!!”

And speaking of online, if you want to join us but need some assistance to get set up, please do not hesitate to call the church office.  We have people who can either walk you through it on the phone or can come over (while wearing a mask) to get you ready.

I hope that you are all keeping in touch with each other.  I’m sure you are talking to people you normally see at church.  But I encourage you to also reach out to a member that you don’t know.  Go through the church directory and call someone you slightly know or don’t know at all.  God may be leading you to fill a need at just the right time.

Unashamed: When God Gives Up
Romans 1:18-32

vs 19-20 Since what can be known about God is evident among them, because God has shown it to them. For His invisible attributes, that is, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen since the creation of the world, being understood through what He has made. As a result, people are without excuse.

Let me also encourage you to tune in to the online worship this Sunday.  I'm going to be tackling a very important (and difficult) passage of Scripture: Romans 1:18-32 from the series Unashamed: A Series Through Romans with the message titled When God Gives Up.  Grasping the meaning of this passage is vital to gaining a more meaningful appreciation of God's great salvation.  It also will help us to more accurately understand the world in which we live.  In preparation for this Sunday, please read and pray over this passage ahead of time.  Also, pray for me that I might be able to "rightly divide the word of truth" in such a way that God may be glorified and people who don't know Jesus will be brought under conviction.

“See” you on Sunday
Pastor Jim

Matt Van Peursem is the Pastor of Catalyst Church in Woodland.  I asked him what the Lord is doing in his church during this challenging time.  What he shared is a great reminder of how God will work His good purpose through trials!

I'd be lying if I said that this COVID season was anything other than a challenge.  The first few weeks were exhilarating...might I say fun!  Our team was unified, creative and excited for the new challenge.  However, 21 weeks in and just yesterday I had a meeting with our final staff member to hit the burnout wall.  She lasted 5 months before the weight of expectations came crashing down.  It is difficult to have much of what you know as ministry to go right out the window.  Yet, through it all, God remains incredibly faithful.  In the first 10 weeks of COVID we added 20 new givers and saw our generosity go up by 7% to meet the need locally and globally through many of our ministry partners.  We linked arms with churches in Guatemala and saw our people send thousands of dollars south of the border to feed hundreds of hungry families.  We've seen people we still haven't met commit their lives to Jesus through our livestream and anxiously await the day where we can baptize them in person.  We have seen tremendous creativity in our discipleship models as God opens new ways of leading one another into closer relationship with Him.  For years I have heard people say that the best thing that could ever happen to the local church is some form of disruption or persecution.  I'm not close to comparing COVID lockdowns with what our brothers and sisters around the world continue to endure but I choose to see it as a blessing to wean us off of any comfort that has pulled us off mission.  Until we can gather again, we're thankful for what God has done and continues to do through His church.
