I pray that this message finds you healthy and doing well. Lately, I've been thinking quite a bit about the uncertainty of our current situation caused by the pandemic.

First, it has reminded me how much I dislike uncertainty.  I'm a planner.  I like to be able to plan things out ahead of time.  I guess planning like that gives me a sense of control.  But right now, about the only thing I can plan on is more uncertainty.

Second, the current situation has reminded me of how little control we actually have over our lives. I was reading in James 4:13-15 where he says, "Now listen, you who say, 'Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.' Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow...Instead, you ought to say, 'If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that.'"  It's easy to forget the truth that everything we "plan" to do is dependent on the will of God.  Proverbs 16:9 (NCV) sums it up quite well: "People may make plans in their minds, but the Lord decides what they will do." In other words, it's OK to make plans, but we have to realize that it is God's will that is going to come to pass, regardless of what we've planned.

Third, I came to a fresh realization of this truth: I don't need to know what's going to happen next as long as I know that it is God's will.  The fact is: Whatever happens, God is in control.  Nothing happens that is out of His control. The old hymn says it this way:

"I know not what tomorrow holds, but I know Who holds tomorrow."

Especially in these times of uncertainty, we need that reassurance that our good and perfect Heavenly Father is in absolute control of all things; therefore, we can be joyful no matter what.

Part 2 How to Be Joyful No Matter What
Philippians 1:12-30

Sundays @ Hillsdale
Worship Experience
April 26, 2020

I really hope you will join us for worship online this Sunday.  I will explore this idea some more in a message entitled, "How to Be Joyful No Matter What."  Christian will be leading us in worship starting at 10:45 am.  Even though we are not able to gather in person, our attendance at all online meetings last week (76 people) was the highest we've had so far during this crisis.

Many thanks not only to Christian for the great worship music, but also to Jose Mayrena, who has put in hours of work to get our live streaming set up and to record the service for posting on the website and to Roman Bulanova for his work on the sound board and PowerPoint presentations.

I miss all of you so much.  I hope we will be able to gather in person again very soon.  See you on Sunday at 10:45 am.

True Spiritual Worship

According to this verse

What are we to offer to God?
We are to (present, give to as in a marriage covenant) our bodies to God; Holy and pleasing to Him.

Why is God asking for a Living Sacrifice?
God wants us to present our bodies to Him (with all the living energy, capabilities and powers we have) to be consciously directed (in every aspect of our lives) to Him in service.

Why does God want a Holy Sacrifice?
God wants our service to Him (our covenant) to reside in the heart that is devoted and dedicated to Him for right living; this submission and obedience is a true, holy and perfect form of worship and is pleasing to God.

Why is knowing who God is so very important to us in our true spiritual worship?

Secret Sisters, R.E.A.L. WOMEN

Shh Lips Images, Stock Photos & Vectors | ShutterstockSssshhhhh!  It’s a secret!  Ladies, are you participating in the R.E.A.L. Women’s Ministry Secret Sisters?  If you are, you should have already received information on your Secret Sister.  It is very important right now, during this time of isolation, to let your sister know that they are not alone and that you are praying for them.  You can mail them a card – use the church address as the return address if you don’t want to give away your identity.  If you have a gift for your secret sister, the church office can “forward” it to her.  Just call to make sure someone is in the office before you come by to drop it off.  Call Sheila Ashburn at 916-205-2370, if you have questions about the R.E.A.L. Women’s Ministry.

We are truly blessed by God to have the opportunity to share the love of God and encouragement to one another through the teaching of the scripture, in spite that we are unable to meet together in worship and Bible study. Through our church website and Facebook Social Media we are able to expand our reach of the message of God to those outside our walls - to those who are in our community and around the world. We are working hard and learning as we go along to make corporate worship available online during this time of distancing. I am volunteering my time keeping the church website and Facebook current; as well as sending out this digital newsletter, invites to Live Worship and responding to guests. My goal is to give the church presence in the community and to keep our church family connected, encouraged and informed.

So far we are reaching people.

I have seen exponential growth in the activity of our church website and Facebook Social Media. Because of our efforts several people have signed up to participate in our online services. I have been monitoring the activity of our website since early March. We had at that time 1214 visits to our Home Page and it increases steadily to 1951. People are interested in knowing what we are about. Our website About Us Page had 73 visits and today 105. The CHURCHLife Page is drawing much interest. eNews has 181 hits, eWORSHIP has 352 hits, and ePRAYER has 70 hits. Sermons online has 433 hits. Our church Facebook Page shows we have 296 followers and a total of 1422 visits. The most visits we had in one week was 301. All of this happens when someone makes comments and shares church posts with family & friends.

Just think how much exposure we would give of the message of God if each one of us would
comment & share church posts with our family & friends.

It's is hard to imagine how far the power of God would impact lives through this effort. Thank you for your participation and allowing me to share my spiritual gifts and talents to the Glory of God.

Annie Armstrong Easter Offering

Annie Armstrong: Together for His Kingdom | NORTH PULASKI BAPTIST ...Given the current situation, we are extending our collection period for the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missions through the month of May.  This offering accounts for 50% of North American Mission Board’s budget, with 100% of offering gifts going directly to the field for missionaries and their ministries.  So far, we have collected $ 580 towards our church goal of $1,000.  Pray for people to be generous in giving to the offering this year during this trying time, so missionaries are equipped to share the gospel throughout the United States and Canada.

This is the only picture of Annie Armstrong that we have. To learn more about this remarkable woman and missionary, view the video bio at https://www.namb.net/video/annie-armstrong-biography/

Your tithe and mission offering can be mailed to the church or drop it off during office hours.  If you would like a supply of giving envelopes, reply to this message and the office volunteers will mail them to you.

This week I met with several pastors in our association through internet conferencing, which is how our meetings are taking place during the pandemic.  I always enjoy these get-togethers, but this time I was struck with an intriguing thought.  I realized with renewed impact that these are shepherds who are committed to your spiritual good.  What a blessing!  It reminded me of God’s promise, “I will give you shepherds after My own heart, who will feed you on knowledge and understanding” (Jeremiah 3:15)...Read More

What Makes a Great Team (Part 1) by Rick Warren
Every church needs a strong volunteer team. You can’t afford to hire enough staff to do all God wants you to do in your
community. More importantly, one of the purposes of your church “is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church” (Ephesians 4:12 NLT). Part of equipping your volunteers to serve the church is developing them into an effective team...
