Our Beliefs

The following is what we at Hillsdale Blvd Baptist Church believe as Christians and members of the church.

  • We are called to follow Jesus as a disciple.
A disciple is someone who has an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ and faithfully submits to His Lordship in every aspect of their life.

But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:12 ESV

Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes and is justified, and with the mouth, one confesses and is saved. Romans 10:9 ESV

  • We are called to be obedient to His commands.
A disciple is someone who has followed Christ in baptism and lives in obedience to His commands.

Therefore, be imitators of God, as beloved children.  And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. Ephesians 5:1 ESV

  • We are called to be Nurturers of God's People.
A disciple is someone who is helping fellow Christians to grow in their faith and walk with Christ.

Now, these are the gifts Christ gave to the church...to equip God's people to do His work and build up the church, the body of Christ...growing in every way more and more like Christ... so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love. Ephesians 4:11-16

So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.  Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples. John 13:34-35

  • We are called to Fellowship with other Believers.
A disciple is someone who is actively involved in the community of the church, which includes Worship, Prayer, Bible Study, and the work of Ministry together.

If we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other... 1 John 1:7

All believers devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching, and to fellowship, and sharing in meals, and prayer. Acts 2:24

Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. Colossians 3:12-14

  • We are called to be equipped to do the work of the Lord.
A disciple is someone who is actively growing in their faith and teaching others in their area of influence how to live a disciple's life.

Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you... Matthew 28-19-20

  • We are called to have a servant's heart.
A disciple is someone who is actively involved in ministry by using their spiritual gifts to build up the body of Christ for ministry and service to others.

God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. 1 Peter 4:10

In His grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So, if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly. Don't just pretend to love others. Really live them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection and take delight in honoring each other...When God's people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality. Romans 12:6-13

  • We are called to Share God's message.
A disciple is someone who faithfully prays for and witnesses to those who are within their life circle and around the world who do not know Christ as Savior.

We proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, whom we have heard and seen. We saw Him with our own eyes and touched Him with our own hands. He is the Word of Life. This one who is Life itself was revealed to us, and we have seen him. And now we testify and proclaim to you that He is the one who is Eternal Life. He was with the Father, and then He was revealed to us. We proclaim to you what we ourselves have actually seen and heard so that you may have Fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ." 1 John 1

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere-in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Acts 1:8
