PART 1: Living A Life of Love because love comes from God

(Jesus speaking) A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”   John 13: 34-35 (ESV)

In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us. I John 9-12 ESV

Live A Life of Love

What a wonderful and amazing God we have that He would plan, long ago before the foundation of the world, to send His Son as a love offering for us, that we might have a relationship with God through His son; for which He purposed that we are to live through Him. This unconditional love, mercy and grace we have experienced is a love above all others and born in us through our union with Christ. As we experience this abounding love and learn to know Him better and better, we learn to love as He loves.

They Will Know We are Christians by Our Love

And this is how we know that we are HIS that we love one another as He loves us. By this we know that HIS LOVE IS IN US and WORKING THROUGH US, because perfect LOVE comes from God Himself. This is what God has purposed in us that His love become real, for they will know we are HIS by our LOVE.

Purposeful Prayer

I fall to my knees and pray to the Father the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will EMPOWER you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you TRUST in him.Your roots will grow down into GOD'S LOVE and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how WIDE, how LONG, how HIGH, and how DEEP his love is. May you EXPERIENCE the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be MADE COMPLETE with all the FULLNESS OF LIFE and POWER that comes from God- Amen Ephesians 3:14-19 NLT

PART 2: Living A Life of Love because love is made perfect by our love for God

(Jesus speaking) “The most important is, ... you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:29-31 (ESV)

Jesus Said “On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 22:40 ESV

God's Love is Perfected in Us

There is no mistaking it. A life of love not only comes from God Himself, it comes from our love for God. Jesus made it very clear that the greatest commandment of all is to Love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and to fulfill all the commandments — to love our neighbor as ourselves.

Perfect, God-like love, only comes from God and is perfected in our life by our love and devotion to Him. We are to Love God. He is to be the first love of our life. Then and only then can we fill the full measure of all His commands summed up in these few words, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. Romans 13:8 ESV

Live A Life of Love

This perfect love is possible because we put God first in our life. And as we love God with all our being, our love becomes shaped like God’s love. So we love no matter what the circumstances, so that we can become an example of God’s love, expressed in us and through us to all those around us.

Purposeful Prayer

Lord, you have commanded us to love you with all of our heart, with all our soul, with all our mind and with all our strength. And to love our neighbor as ourselves.

When you are my first love and I put you before everything else; you have my heart. When my heart belongs to you and your love saturates my whole being; you have my soul. When I make a conscious choice to follow you and surrender my will to yours to follow your statutes and commands; you have my mind and my life choices will honor your word. When I know in my heart you are a good God, loving, patient, kind, forgiving, faithful and true; you have all my strength. Then I have the courage to Love others as you have loved me. No matter what the circumstances and in all situations you give me the power and the strength to fulfill your law of love.

Thank you God, for your abounding love and faithfulness and for being my Lord and Savior. With your help I can live a life of love.

PART 3: Living A Life of Love perfect love defined

What Real Love Is
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant
or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8  ESV

(Jesus speaking) This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved youGreater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. John 15:12-13 ESV

Jesus, the perfect example of love
Jesus desires us to love as He has loved us. He is the perfect picture of love that is never self-serving but is self-sacrificing.

We are to love as He has loved us
The love we speak of when we refer to God’s love is known as Agape. Agape is Divine Love - selfless, unconditional love shown by God’s immeasurable, incomparable love that is ongoing, outgoing, and self-sacrificing. God loves without condition or reciprocation; unreservedly and undeservedly. This divine love is unmotivated or contingent on any value or worth possessed by the object. God’s love is totally and freely given from His own volition to choose to love. This is why His love is PERFECT.

This God-like love is born in us when we come to know God in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. To know God is to know love and His love is unconditional and self-sacrificing. His perfect, God-like love, is perfected in our life by our love and devotion to Him.

So How Do We Show Real Love Out of Devotion to God

Love is patient and Kind Real love shows full acceptance of the person, both good and bad, from a heart that expects nothing in return; realizing the other's value and true potential.

Love never insists on their own way Real love puts other's needs before their own, to be supportive, cooperative and open minded.

Love is never irritable or resentful Real love maintains a positive attitude full of patience, kindness and grace when facing obstacles, by giving someone what they don't deserve.

Love never rejoices in wrong but rejoices in truth Real love never gets satisfaction from the mistakes of others, but true satisfaction is felt when those loved become whole from the lessons of truth.

Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes in all things and endures all things Real love is true in spite of all those things that can go wrong, with an optimism of what can get better by the grace, strength, and goodness of God.

Love never ends Real love comes from God no matter what the circumstances and is eternal.

Purposeful Prayer

What a wonderful savior, my Lord, to have loved us with the most perfect love to lay down your life for us. Your love is given to us with full acceptance of who we are and what we shall become, rather that what is expected in return. Your love is fully selfless, looking at our needs above your own; fully realizing the benefits and personal growth we will gain from you. You never think of yourself first or demands your own way but relinquished your life for our benefit, full of grace and mercy—giving us what we don’t deserve. You always rejoices when we become all we can become through you. Your love is true and pure and never ending.

Let us experience your love as it moves us to a genuine devotion to love God with everything we are; knowing the greatest devotion we can give to God is to love others as you have loved us - Amen

Reflect on how perfect God’s love is and the fellowship we have with Him and with one another.

PART 4: Living A Life of Love perfect love in the Body of Christ

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13: 34-35 ESV

Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Romans 12:10 NLT

Let all that you do be done in love. 1 Corinthians 16:14 ESV

Make no mistake, Jesus places a strong emphasis on this crazy thing called LOVE. And it is no mistake that He declared the whole law is fulfilled by LOVE — LOVE FOR GOD and LOVE FOR ONE ANOTHER. I believe we ought to take this very seriously and consider the evidence of love in our life as a Christian and as the Body of Christ — The Church.

Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight.  Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12: 9– 21 ESV

Love - The Mark of a True Disciple

We have been taught that perfect love comes from God and it is by His love that we know how to love one another. This God-love is made perfect in us through our love for God, as we love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and to love our neighbor as ourselves. Jesus showed us what perfect love looks like by what He taught and how He lived. This God-love is selfless-love. It is this same kind of love Jesus commands us to show to one another. What a wonderful privilege and honor it is to enjoy a personal relationship with Him and the abundance of spiritual blessings He has given us. However, we must realize; with privilege there is also great responsibility. He tells us, If you love me you will keep my commands. Let our love for God come from all our heart, mind, soul and strength and love as He has loved us. Then this real, God-love, will bear Christ-like characteristics and actions for the glory of God.

Let our love be real and genuine by hating what is evil and doing good, having real zeal and affection for one another by living honorably and showing respect to everyone; having hope and patience, showing grace and kindness - praying constantly - and giving freely to those in need. And as far as it depends upon us, to live in peace with all. As we come to the great realization of how good our God is, we will honor and trust God to deal with our enemies His way, knowing His way is the best way. Let our love for God come from all our heart, mind, soul and strength and so that we will love one another as He has loved us - then we will be known to be Christians by our love.

Purposeful Prayer

What a wonderful, gracious and loving God we have; full of mercy and grace, faithfulness and kindness. Help us Lord, to love you with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and to love our neighbor as ourselves. You have shown us so many kindnesses by loving us with a real love, by showing us the great value we have as your children of God. Help us to realize the abundant benefits and privileges we have, as yours. More so, help us to understand; with privilege there is great responsibility - to love each other as you have loved us and to love our neighbor as ourselves. Then the Church will be known to be Yours by our love - Amen

PART 5: Living A Life of Love love empowered by Living in the Spirit

(Apostle Paul speaking)  So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any PARtiCiPATion in the SPiRIT, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Philippians 2:1-2 ESV

Living in The Power of The Spirit

(Jesus speaking) "If you love me you will keep my commandments." John 14:15 ESV  Jesus comanded us to keep His commandments to prove our love and devotion to Him. And this comandment came with a promise. Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit who will take residence in our heart and soul.
"And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth... You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. John 14:16-17a, 17b ESV

We must be willing to be obedient to Him and submit ourselves to the power of the Holy Spirit. It is then that our participation in the Spirit will produce complete joy, having the same love, and being in accord and of one mind which will facilitate the fellowship of incouragement, comfort, love, compassion and sympathy.

The Power of Love

(Apostle Paul speaking)  And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment,so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. Philippians 1:9-10 ESV

The Power of Love Will Bring About Change

Change of Love
The Apostle Paul prays for us to demonstrate a life living in the Spirit because he knows the power of love. Living a life of love empowered by the Spirit will change our love. Our love will increase more and more in knowledge and discernment; that we will have the power to see and know and show God's love.

Change of Behavior
Living a life of love empowered by the Spirit will change our behavior. Our actions will show what is excellent in the eyes of God and our lives will be pure and blameless.

Change of Heart and Mind
Living a life of love empowered by the Spirit will change our heart and mind. Our heart and mind will produce in us fruit of righteousness that comes from Christ to the Glory of God.

Purposeful Prayer

Our Lord and wonderful redeemer. Thank you for your abounding love, compassion, encouragement, comfort and sympathy. Through your example we learn how to love. Thank you for giving us the precious gift of Holy Spirit who teaches us everything we need to know about you and guides us into all truth. It is through His abundant power that we have to ability to be obedient and pleasing to you, pure and blameless and full of the fruit of righteousness. We treasure the promises you have graciously given to us. Thank you for your Power of Love that effectively increases our power to love more and more so that we have a change of behavior to prove what is excellent in your eyes. Also by changing our heart and mind that we may be filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes from you. All glory to God - Amen.

PART 6: Living A Life of Love love's new attitude

(Apostle Paul speaking)  Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.

Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.  And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father. Colossians 3:12-17 NLT

Putting On A New Attitude

When we devote ourselves to loving God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength, we submit our lives to the authority of Jesus Christ and our life will drastically change. It's like putting on a new suit of clothes. Before we knew Christ our clothes were worn, dirty and torn. Now that we know Christ and have fellowship with Him, He has given us a new life; a life of living in the Spirit. This life in the Spirit is like a new suit of clothes that are holy, righteous and pleasing to God. Paul is encouraging us as the members of the Body of Christ to put on the new self. This can only be done as we submit ourselves to Christ and live in the Spirit through our love and devotion to Him.

God has chosen us as the Body of Christ to be the witness to the world that we are His by our love. It is through real love that God has chosen to redeem the world. And our calling is to represent Him in with real love's new attitude. This attitude is of tender mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Therefore, in the Body of Christ our fellowship with one another should never be broken. We should be ready to make allowances for other's faults and be forgiving as Christ forgave us. It is this perfect, God-like love which comes from God that is perfected in us by our life of love and devotion to Him. So as we put God first in our life, we can love no matter what the circumstances so that we can become an example of God's love expressed in us, through us, and to all those around us.

It is from real love's new attitude that Christ will bind us together in perfect harmony and give us peace and thankful hearts. Then we are able to teach and counsel with wisdom, and sing songs and hymns with thankful hearts to Him; always acting and speaking as His representative, and always thankful.

Purposeful Prayer

Lord Jesus, I am so thankful for your loving-kindness you have shown us through your mercy and grace. None of us deserve the sacrifice you endured for us through your death on the cross. It is only by your undeserved favor that you've given us the privilege to be called your children and enjoy all the benefits you've given us through the power of your Spirit. Thank you for calling us to be your Church as a witness of you love and redemption. Continue to give us the power to put on your real love's attitude that we can live together in perfect harmony. Allow our devotion to you grow and grow as we get to know you better and better. And as we make you first in our heart and life you will fill us with your love, peace and give us thankful hearts. Continue to help us to live as your representative in the ways we teach and counsel, giving us wisdom in the ways we act and speak, making sure our ministry of the word and song is always helpful, to the praise and glory of God - Amen
