A Message From Your Pastor

Hello Hillsdale Family!

I hope and pray that all of you are doing well.

I encourage everyone to come together on Sunday mornings beginning at 9:30 am for Sunday Bible Study. We are resuming our classes starting July 11th.

I am praying for each of you to begin again assembling together for worship, instruction, and teaching in the Word of God for encouragement and growth in faith for your spiritual walk with God. I can't emphasize enough the importance of our assembly together as a family of God.

(Jesus' prayer) "That they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they MAY BECOME PERFECTLY ONE, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me." John 17:21-23

"So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind." Philippians 2:1

Jesus, Teach Us To Pray

PART 3: Jesus, Teach Us to Pray

Matthew 6:12
"forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us."

Forgive us our sins...

All Have Sinned
Jesus understands our human condition for sin.
"For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard." Romans 3:23 NLT   When teaching His disciples He looked forward to His purpose for coming into this world. He knew we needed a rescuer and to be able to see God and experience His love in the most personal way. So He walked with them and showed them who God is. So He took our sin upon Himself and paid the penalty for sin through His death on the cross.

"For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through him, God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross." Colossians 1:19-20 NLT  Thank God, we NOW HAVE PEACE with GOD for the forgiveness of sin, for all time.

God's Gift
This peace with God is offered as God's free gift to us when we submit ourselves to the authority of Christ in our lives.
"If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9 ESV  God has given us this NEW LIFE through regeneration - the Holy Spirit spirit who lives within us "But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God." John 1:12 ESV  "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation." 2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV This NEW LIFE with God breaks the power of sin in our lives. "We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives." Romans 6:6 This power over sin is available to us through Holy Spirit who resides in us (Jesus speaking). " Even the Spirit of truth... You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you." John 14:17 ESV

As we have forgiven those who sin against us

The Power of Forgiveness

We are capable of resisting the temptation to sin through the power of the Holy Spirit when we submit to the authority of Christ by yielding our will to Him. It is by yielding our will to His that we are able to benefit the fruit of the Spirit "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control." Galatians 5:22 ESV  However, if we fail to yield to Him and give in to temptation and sin "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." John 1:9 ESV  What a marvelous gift our Lord has given us, a new life in Him and forgiveness of sin when we fail to surrender to His will and live by His commands.

"For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." 2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV

The Power to Forgive Others
Once we experience God's forgiveness of sin and the power of the Holy Spirit to teach us the Truth and lead us to Godly living, we experience more and more love for God.

When We Love God, We Love People.

"And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God." Ephesians 5:2 ESV

Love
The power to forgive others who sin against us IS IN OUR LOVE FOR GOD. How can we exact the penalty against others for their failure to live up to our standards when we've been forgiven for failure to live up to God's standards, through what Christ did on the cross? The command is for us to love one another as He has loved us.

(Jesus speaking) "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another." John 13:34 ESV

"Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love. God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other." 1 John 4:7-11 NLT

Purposeful Prayer
Gracious loving and forgiving Heavenly Father. Please forgive me for failing to live up to your Holy Standards as I have forgiven others for failure to live up to mine. Thank you for sending Jesus as your perfect sacrifice on the cross for my sins. May I never forget the guilt and shame you felt on my behalf and the pain of the cross? Help me to love you more and more as I meditate on all that you are and what you are doing for your Kingdom purpose in this world. Allow your love to compel me to love you more and to love others as you have loved me with the same grace, mercy, patience, kindness, and forgiveness. I submit myself to your authority in my life to live in the power of the Holy Spirit by yielding to your will so that I can continue living and doing all you have commanded in your word . . .

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength." Mark 12:30 ESV

Lord, When you are my first love and I put you before everything else; you have my heart. When my heart belongs to you and your love saturates my whole being; you have my soul. When I make a conscious choice to follow you and surrender my will to yours to follow your statutes and commands; you have my mind and my life choices will honor your word. When I know in my heart you are a good God, loving, patient, kind, forgiving, faithful and true; you have all my strength. Then I have the courage to Love others as you have loved me. No matter what the circumstances and in all situations, you give me the power and the strength to fulfill your law of love ~Amen
