a sermon series through the Gospel of John
by Pastor Jim Fredrickson

Sundays 10:30 am
Hillsdale Blvd Baptist Church

Join us in a journey through the writings of the Apostle John; the testimony of a reliable eye witness of the eternal son of God, Jesus Christ, who was sent by God to be the Savior of the World, that we may receive eternal life. And this is eternal life - that we may KNOW GOD as the only true God and JESUS CHRIST whom God sent. (John 17: 3)

We hope you'll plan to join us for this exciting  journey!

The Gospel of John is a masterpiece of storytelling, which is both charming in its simplicity and challenging in its depth. John presents God as Father more tenderly than any other book in the Bible, boldly establishes the dual nature of Jesus Christ--fully God and fully human, perfectly united in one person--and reveals the mystery of the Holy Spirit unlike any other gospel writer. Instead of overwhelming the reader with information, John strategically chose which  stories to relate in order to accomplish his primary purpose:

"So that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name." (John 20:31).

Believe & Live: "God is Here"
John 1:1-18

We learned these truths from the prologue of the writings of the Apostle John: "But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name." John 20:31
The WORD is God. I must trust the truth that Jesus is God. Before time began the WORD existed. The Word (Jesus Christ, the Logos) was with God and He was God. Jesus the eternal WORD is without beginning and without ending. He is the exact representation of God, having the same nature and essence as God--JESUS WAS GOD.
The WORD is Creator. I must trust the truth that through Jesus, the eternal son of God, not one thing that exists was made without Him and that all things were made by Him and for Him.
The WORD is Life. I must trust the truth that nothing has life apart from Him. In Jesus we find real life, real purpose and meaning. Apart from Him is mere existence.
The WORD is the Light. I must trust the truth that apart from Jesus there is no light. In Jesus we have the light of life and from that point on we no longer live in darkness (apart from God.)
The WORD is Proclaimed. John the Baptist was witness to the WORD that we may believe.
The WORD is Rejected. The WORD came to His own creation to enlighten them to the TRUE LIGHT. But the world did not know Him nor did they receive Him. They rejected Him because they did not want Him, they were unable to recognize Him and they loved darkness more than light.
The WORD is Received. I must trust the truth that only those who believe in Him and receive Him can become children of God.
The WORD is Made Flesh. I must trust the truth that Jesus is perfect humanity wrapped around undiminished deity. Because God had a rescue mission for His creation, He invaded the world in human form to fulfill that mission.
The eternal WORD became flesh and through John's writings, eye witnesses testify that they saw Him, touched Him with their hands and saw His glory as the only begotten Son of God. The Son of God with the fullness of all of God's deity wrapped in the form of an infant child.
Had He not become man He could not have been tempted, to become our perfect High Priest. He could not have been our perfect example, that He may become our righteousness. And He could not have died to become the perfect sacrifice for our sins.
The WORD fully Reveals the Father. I must trust the truth that to know God, I must know Jesus. John says, No one has ever seen God, but God, the only Son, is very close to the Father, and He has shown us what God is like.
